HASTINGS MAGISTRATE’S COURT

(Before Mr. A. M. Mowlem, S.M ) TO-DAY’S CASES. Archie Morris was charged with failing to notify his change of address as required under the Arms Act. — He was fined £1 with costs 10/-. Henry William Cracknell was charged with failing to supply particulars of endorsements to his driving license to a local authority when making application for a driver's license. Evidence was given by W. M. Will, Clerk of the Court, that the defendant was convicted of negligent driving and his license was to be endorsed. Senior-Sergeant Dempsey stated that the defendant applied to the County Council for a license and failed to state that there was an order of endorsement made against him. D. A. Evans, County Traffic Inspector ,produced a form which stated that there were no endorsements. The defendant stated that actually he did not fill in the form, though he signed it. He did not know he had to notify the County of his conviction.

His Worship stated that he proposed to take a lenient view of the matter, though it was a serious matter. It was clear some mistake was made, and when the defendant knew the circumstances he returned the license immediately- A fine of 10/was inflicted with costs totalling 13/-. CIVIL CASES. Vidal and Sons v. W. Graham £2 15/-. costs £1 3/6; G. C. Thornton v. Mr. and Mrs. Tutu Akonga £ll 12/6, costs 3 5/-; B. Hayden v. J. Hart £2 15/-, costs £1 5/6; Wm. Kershaw v. W. Ryder £3 10/-, costs £1 4/6. Judgment Summonses.—P. J. Greaney was ordered to pay R. C. Roberts £4 2/6 within 14 days in default five days’ imprisonment; P. J. Greaney to pay Hood and Coxon £4 17/- within 28 days, in default five days ’imprisonment; James Cranston to pay Wall and Gallien £lB 16/6 within 14 days, in default 19 days’ imprisonment.
