DAIRY CONTROVERSY
A REPLY TO MR. lORNS. SOUTH ISLAND VIEW OE CONTRACTS[Per Press Association.] Dunedin, Sept. 4. Mr. Wight, secretary of the South Island Dairy Association, in reply to Mr. lorns, says that the South Island Association did not adopt standard contracts some years ago without consulting its individual members. The matter was brought up at the annual conference in June, 1923, and after being fully discussed the executive was given full power to complete contracts after conferring with the National Dairy Association and the Exporters’ Association. The opinion expressed by Mr. lorns—that it is farcical to suggest that •the adoption of finest grade as the basic grade for sales contracts will result in loss to the industry—is certainly not shared by producers in the south, who have been made acquainted with the position. They are emphatically of opinion that it would result in a very considerable loss to them and they have no doubt that if the facts were made known to the producers in the north they would subscribe to that view.
In regard to Mr. lorns’s statement that the board had not discussed any of the clauses of the cheese contract, that does not coincide with the official report of the meeting which states: “A mo-del contract was also submitted in respect of the clause provisions regarding shrinkage and other details and evoked considerable discussion.”
