MEDICAL CONGRESS
DELEGATES WELCOMED. [United Press Association—By CableCopyright.) 1 Australian and N.Z Press Association.] Sydney, Sept. 2. The members of the Australasian Medical Congress were tendered a civic reception at the Sydney Town Hall to-day. The Chief Commissioner, Mr Garlick, cordially welcomed the New Zealand representatives. He directed attention to the fact that the infantile death rate per thousand in the Sydney metropolitan area was now only 49.3 compared with 71 when the congress last mot here in 1911, while the average rato was only 9.3 per thousand. Sir E. Mac Lean, immediate past president of the British Medi.cal Association and vice-chancellor of the University of Wales, fittingly acknow lodged the welcome on behalf of the central council of the association. The congress begins to-morrow at the university, when a discussion opens on the question: “What is being done in Australia towards cancer research.”
