THE MUNICIPALITY

REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING. PARS OF INTEREST TO RATEPAYERS. The regular meeting of the Hastings Borough Council was held last evening, when ths Mayor, Mr. G. F. Roach, presided. Others present were Crs. R. Henderson, P. M. Cchr, P. H. Loach, C. H. Slater, C. W. G. McCormick, W. J. Lyon, T. Donovan, R. Baker, and J. Simmons. The Main Highways Board advised that the Minister of Public Works had allocated £314 4/1 to the Council, being proportion of the petrol tax collected for the period ended June 30 last.—Received.

An .application for a grant to the funds was made by the District Nursing Association, which pointed out that through having to provide a new car for the use of the nurse and also having to spend a considerable amount in bare necessities, in many cases of most abject poverty, the Association’s funds were well nigh depleted.—Referred to the Finance Comtee the Mayor stating that lie thought it advisable to have the comtee make a recommendation.

The Hawke's Bay Aero Club executive wrote advising that the flying surplus to date amounts to £492, and the club extended its thanks for the council’s assistance rendered in the cutting of the fairways, and for the service of the inspector in so efficiently directing the traffic on the dav of the Aero Pageant.—Received. The Radio Ball Committee wrote suggesting that the Council install two or three electric points at dif. ferent places around the Assembly Hall for the convenience of dance committees who made a special point of lighting effects at their functions.— Received.

The Hawke’s Bav County Council wrote asking if the Council would consent to allow its inspector to take action against motorists that he might find at any time “speeding” on county roads just outside the boundary of the borough, and, if so, the County Council would give him the required authority. It had been reported that certain motor-bike riders were “speeding” along the road fronting the Hastings Hospital and causing a disturbance.—Agreed to
