WELLINGTON CUP MEETING OPENS TOMORROW AT TRENTHAM THE FINAL GALLOPS [Per Press Association.! Wellington, Jan. 21. Cold and bleak conditions prevailed at Trentham this morning, but the rain held off. It is at present very threatening. A good deal of fast work was done, and practically all the prominent horses, except Gascony, were on the scene. • • • On the Plough. Quantum ran four furlongs in secs. Rapine, brought home by Star God, covered a mile in 1.46.

Catkin and Bourse left 7 furlongs behind in 1.31. Silvermine and Llanore went over 5 furlongs in 1.5. Full Feather and Prickles did four furlongs in 53jsecs.

Childsplay left three furlings behind in 37 2-ssecs. Panther beat Historic at the end of 6 furlongs run in 1.19. Tcheka did four furlongs in 52secs.

* s « Reremoana covered 6 furlongs in 1.18, the last four taking 53secs. Hoylake did 6 furlongs in 1.191, the last three in 40 J secs. Battle Colours and Rotor left 6 furlongs behind in 1.20. On the Crass. Talisker finished in front of Vertigern at the end of 7 furlongs run in 1.29, the last 6 in 1.17. Talisker went well. Papatu and Teri covered 6 furlongs in 1.19. The two-year-olds worked on the course proper.

Gav Ballerina showed tremendous speed for 3 furlongs from the 5 furlongs to the two furlongs, but could not be timed accurately. First Money ran away from Tobacco over half a mile.
