THE SOUTHERN CROSS
SUCCESSFUL SYDNEY-MEL-BOURNE TRIAL. SIGNALS HEARD IN NEW ZEALAND. (Received 10, 11.15 a.m.) Melbourne, Aug. 10. The Southern Cross, from the Rich mond aerodrome, Sydney, arrived at Point Cook after a flight occupying slightly over five hours. Lieut. Ulin stated that the engines were working satisfactorily, and ho w-as pleased that the wireless signals were being clearly received in New Zealand. It is expected that the Southern Cross will stay in Melbourne for a few days, and then the hop off will be made for Western Australia. AVIATION ENGINEER’S CLAIM. (Received 10 8.55 a.m.) Sydney, Aug. 9. A writ has been issued on behalf of Robert Hitchcock, aviation ground engineer, claiming from Smith and Ulm and Keith Anderson £lOOO which Hitchcock alleges the airmen agreed to pay him nnor to departure for America to undertake the transPacific flight.
