(Received 8. 11.55 a.m.) Rome, Aug. 7. Divers have attached an air supply tube and also a steel cable to the hut! of the sunken submarine Fl 4. Experts are optimistic of the chances of raising her. The submarine is of comparatively small dimensions and therefore salvage should be possible now that chains are attached, especially as tire sea is calmer. Telephone communiI cations have been established by | means of wireless.
An overnight cable stated: The Italian coastal submarine Fl 4. carrying out attacking exercises seven miles west of the island of Brioni, suddenly emerged under the bows of the destroyer Missiouri. A collision followed and Fl 4 sank in 20 fathoms. The “Evening Standard’s” Trieste correspondent says it is believed that 34 are still alive on Fl 4. The cruiser Biindisi, with Admiral Foschini aboard, has arrived at the scene and is directing salvage, which is made most difficult by rough weather. It is feared the operations will occupy a long time. • i
