THEFT CHARGES

MANAGER AND CLERK COMMITTED FOR TRIAL.

Eltham, July 13. At the Eltham Court to-day, before J.P.’S, Harley Hector Henderson, exmanager of Newton King, Ltd.’s branch at Knponga, and James Harold Adam, ex-clerk, were charged on remand with the theft of moneys, the property of the firm. In the case of Henderson there were 17 charges, the total amount involved being £1174 6/5. while in the case of Adam there were seven charges, involving £440 17/-. There were also three charges of making false entries against both accused. Lengthy evidence was taken, and a statement by Henderson admitting the theft of £1043 12/- was l put in by a detective.

Counsel for the accused pleaded not guilty and reserved the defence. Both were committed for trial to the sitting of the Supreme Court at Now Plymouth on August 14, bail being allowed as previously.
