RELIEF OF DISTRESS
CHEQUE FROM M.U. ODDFELLOWS. The Mayor of Hastings (Mr. G. A. Maddison) has received the following letter from Mr. A. G. Shrimpton, the Grand Secretary of the Manchester Unity Oddfellows in New Zealand: — “At the recent conference of the New Zealand branch of the Manchester Unity, held in your town, a resolution was carried appreciating the Mayor’s kindly recognition of the effort of the Friendly Society movement in the direction of the alleviation of suffering and distress and its value to community life, and further, that a S”m of £lO 101- be forwarded to His Worship the Mavor of Hastings. Mr. G. A. Mnddison, to be devoted .at his discretion, to any relief fund in his territory. In accordance with the resolution I forward you cheque for £lO 10/6 (including exchange).” The Mayor has decided to devote this amount to the purchase of blankets for necessitous cases in Hastings and hopes to receive from the Fosnit"! Board a subsidy of £ for £ on the total amount.
