THE PICTURE HOUSES

MUNICIPAL. Corinne Griffith’s new First National production of “Into Her Kingdom” is drawing capacity audiences to the Municipal Theatre this change. The production, directed by Svend Gade, is without a doubt on© of the most popular as well as dramatic and colourful vehicles she has yet been given. She plays the role of a Russian Grand Duchess and opposite her, as leading man is Einar Hanson, the Swedish actor, who, becoming a Bolshevik, marries her with the intention or inflicting a punishment worse than death. How he learns to love his wife when they ar© established in an American home provides one of the most powerful dramatic situations in this remarkable film. The scenario of “Into Her Kingdom.” based on Ruth Comfort Mitchell’s story, was written by Carey Wilson, COSY DE LUXE. Reproducing an entire war as it actually took place is the task which confronted James Craze, Paramount director, whose forthcoming production of “Old Ironsides” will include th© encounter of the United States with Tripoli. In a single large sea battle the old frigate, “Old Ironsides,” sailed to victory over a fleet of twenty-ono Tripolitan war vessels. It is around this battle the plot of the story revolves. In the encounter, the United States fleet consisted of the “Constitution,” two powder boats, three brigs and three gunboats, manned by 1040 sailors and gunners. The Tripoli pirates, on the other hand, were 25,000 strong. Cruze filmed this battle, insofar as possible, as it actually took place, one hundred’ and twenty-five years ago. See “Odl Ironsides” at th© Cosy Theatre this change, also “The Collegians” and many supports.
