POPULAR SINGERS COMING

AMY EVANS AND FRASER GANGE. There are few more popular singers in the English-speaking world than Miss Amy Evans, the distinguished Welsh soprano, and Mr. Fraser Gange, the popular Scottish baritone, and music-lovers will learn with delight that these famous artists will make their reappearance in Hastings after an absence of some years. Since their Australian tour both singers have toured Europe and America with even greater success 1 than their previous records, and in the United States they both won a position in the very front rank of musical celebreties. Miss Evans was born ip the little town of Ynyshir, in Glamorgan, South Wales, and at an early age was discovered to have an exceptional singing voice. Between the age of seven and fourteen the famous prima donna won thirty-five prizes at various Eisteddfods, and at the age of fourteen, gained the championship prize awarded at the National Eisteddfod of Wales, the greatest honour for a Welsh singer From then on her career developed in an astonishing fashion, and Miss Evans sang for five seasons at Covent Garden, London, also singing principal soprano at the Chicago Opera. She is recognised as the leading oratoria soprano of the day, and has sung at all the principal concerts throughout Great Britain. Mr. Fraser Gange, a native of Dundee, Scotland, inherited his exceptional voice from his father, a distinguished baritone. At an early age he sang for the first time in “The Messiah,” a work in which he has appeared hundreds of times since. He visited Australia first with Madame Amy Sherwin, and, although Mr. Gange has received repeated offers to sing in grand opera, he has confined himself to the concert platform. Following on his tour of New Zealand, Mr. Gange has toured the United States consistently for the last five years, where he has obtained a position unequalled by any other baritone. He has a repertoire of over 40 oratorios, nine operatic roles, 400 German songs, 300 French songs, 1,250 songs and ballads in English and Scotch, Miss Evans and Mr. Gange will appear at the Hastings Municipal Theatre on Monday next. Miss Enid Conley, a pianist© with a London reputation, will act as accompanist©.
