FOR OLD PEOPLE’S HOME. COSTS TO BE RENDERED It) BOARDS. At a previous meeting of the jparke Island Home Committee considerable discussion took place on the prices paid for drugs by the committee, members being of the opinion that the rates were excessive. At yesterday’s meeting the secretary (Mr. E. T. Rees) reported that many articles were indented from Great Britain at a cost which they could not be purchased in New Zealand from wholesale druggists. Mr D. Drummond insisted that lists should be furnished from various houses for the comparative purposes. Mr. L. Stein stated they were not assuming that the Hawke’s Bay Hospital Board, in supplying the com mittee, were making a profit on the purchases. As there were other hoards besides the Hawke’s Bay Board contributing to the home they had a right to know what charges were being made. In replying to Mr. Drummond the secretary stated that the board was charging only 10 .per cent, on cost prices. Mr. Stein then moved that a list of the drugs supplied to the committee .and their costs, be supplied to the contributing boards previous to the holding of their meetings. Mr. Drummond it wa« not n question of what trouble it would cause, but members had a right to know what the costs were for comparative purposes.
