NAPIER’S TRAMS
PROBLEM OF ADVERTISING POSTERS. COUNCILLORS HAVE DIFFERENT OPINIONS. Are the Napier trams to have pig posters ar small ones on the windows? That is the question which has to be amicably settled by an advertising company, who wish to make a contract for twelve months for the display of posters on the car windows, and by the Napier Borough Council. A suggestion was made by Cr. J. W. Callaghan last evening that the posters should not be more than 18 inches deep, so as to give plenty ol opaev to see through the windows. The Mayor (Mr J. Vigor Brown) was emphatic in his approval of the suggestion, contending that big posters were an obsti uction and thereby increased the possibility of an accident. Other members of the council adopted the view that the t ams had to bo made to pay. and that the only objection to the big posers was the obscuring of visibility. There was no danger of the driver’s or conductor’s view being obstructed, as no posters would be placed on the front and rear windows. “I am pleased to see that some oi the councillors have changed their attitude regarding posters, especially now that there is the question o; finance,” stated Cr. P. F. Higgins, with a smile, but he was called to order. The ma tert was referred to the Finance Committee. ,
