“TIN” HARE RACING

INTRODUCTION IN SOUTH DEAD RABBIT ON MOTOR CAR. CHASED BY WHIPPETS. — Christchurch, Feb. i. Is the much-discussed sport of “tin’’ hare racing about to be introduced in Christchurch ? This is the question a few people who were at New Brighton racecourse on Wednesday evening asked themselves when they saw a motor car with a dead rabbit attached to it chased round the course by a fleet of whippets. It is known to a number of people that a complete electric “tin” hare outfit has been ordered for the city, and as the order was placed some time ago it is surmised that the installation should arrive soon. Members of a small gathering of men connected with the sport of whippet racing in Christchurch, who were in charge of operations at New Brighton seemed to be reticent on the point. There were two explanations. One was that this was a new way of training the little dogs, and the other that it was a try-out under working conditions of the way whippets would take to the new sport.
