WATERFRONT TROUBLES

UNLOADING OF KAITANGATA* DELAYED. INCREASED WAGES DEMANDED. When a call was made to unload the coal on the Kaitangata at Napier on Saturday there was a little trouble over the labour. A demand f?r an increase in wages was made by the men who were working the bull inpes, winches and trucks in the operation of unloading the vessel. The Kaitangata had arrived from Greymouth and Westport early in the morning. It was contended bv the men that they should receive the same pay as those in the hold of the vessel, and they accordingly asked for the 2d an hour extra. The Union S S. Company refused the demand on the grounds that there was nothing in tho award entitling the men to it. A hold-up ensued for the day and no work was done. However, this morning a call for labour met with a good response, even though the company did not nay the increase, and work was proceeded with on tho vessaL
