HAUMOANA
SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Clive Grange School Committee was held on Thursday night. Present: Messrs E. J. Calnan (chairman). G. Bridgban, F. J. Hodgson. C. I. Somerville. A. E. Estaugh, and the headmaster (Mr R. M. Florence). The headmaster reported’ that the roll number was 71. and the average attendance for the month 62. It was decided to write a letter of thanks to Mr T. A. Smith for his generous donation of another twentvfour books to the school library. On the motion of Mr Bridgman, it was decided to close the school on Show Day and Labour Day. Further arrangements were made for the school plain and fancy dress ball, to he held on 14th October, and it was decided to call a general meeting next Thursday in the supper room St the hall, to make final arrangements. This dance is always very popular, and it is anticipated that there will be a record attendance. ENJOYABLE SOCIAL. A very enjoyable congregational social was held in the church on Friday night. The choir rendered several items. Recitations were given by M r Campbell. Miss Collison and the Rev. Gould, while Mrs Somer ville and Miss McLeod gave songs. \ ! collection, which amounted to £3 9s.
