AGRICULTURAL COLLEGE

NEARER COMPLETION. GIFTS OF FRIESIAN HEIFERS. Palmerston JNortli e Oct. 1. At the meeting of the Council or Massey Agricultural College, several ’matters were dealt with bringing the plans for the establishment of the institution nearer completion. Gratification was expressed at the generous offer of members of the Friesian Association to present to the College pedigree heifers to be chosen by judges selected by the Association. The members making the donations of ihe heifers are: fciir Andrew Bussell (Hastings), Mr E. 8. Gill (Bloom field Farni) Major Wilson (Bulls), Mr W. 8. Kyle (Palmerston North)’ and Mr J. H. I‘. Liggins (Tokomaru)*. A large number of grade Jersey heifers have been purchased and from these it is intended to select a number for inclusion in the Jersey herd to be established. In spite of very wet weather the docking tallies show a very satisfactory lambing percentage. The development and subdivision of the farm have been pushed ahead at a steady pace and the property has al tered very much in appearance. In the last three months 71 acres more of the clay land have been drained with very satisfactory results. Seventy acres which have been broken will be cropped this season. The result of the tripod harrowing and top dressing arc noticeable, there being a very Rae growth of grass.
