Ryan, of the Hastings police force, had a most unpleasant experience yesterday afternoon about three o’clock, at the junction of St. Aubyn street and Russell street, nea r the railway crossing. He was cycling in St. Aubyn street and after negotiating the railway line he was turning into Russell street when by some mischance a Hudson car driven by a girl about 16 years of age, ran into him. He was engaged with a ploug tractor on a sloping portion of land and striking a loose surface x the machine slipped, and in trying to jump clear, Mr. Sowersby got a leg pinned underneath the full weight of the tractor. He was alone and cries for help were unavailing. He was in this painful predicament for about two hours when fortunately his wife arrived on the scene with provisions for morning “smoko.” Naturally she had a great shock and as soon as her husband was released it was found his leg had been badly crushed and later he was conveyed to the Royston Hospital. He is making satisfactory progress although it will be some weeks before he is able to resume his farm duties. The doctor stated that had the unfortunate man remained much longer in his precarious condition it might have meant the loss of a leg.
