PAYMISTRESS ROBBED JEWELLER’S WINDOW SMASHED AN UNPRINCIPLED CROWD. [By Cable —Press Assn. — Copyright.] (Received 1, 10-15 a.m.) Melbourne, Oct. 1. Two daring rooberies are reported, the first case that of a young woman wno drew over £2liU in wages from a city bank for her firm at Richmond. She placed the money in an attache case and, when 20 yards from the factory, two men attacked her. One snatched the case and the other threw her to the ground. The robbers then dashed off at a furious speed in a motor car and were pursued by a traveller who forced the robbers’ car to crash into a fire alarm pillar but owing to a war injury, he was unable to pursue them further. Ln the second case, at a busy hour a man smashed a jeweller's window in the city and grabbed a tray of jewellery valued at £lOOO. He however, was held by a man until the police arrested him. During the struggle jewellery, consisting chiefly of rings, was scattered about the ground. £6OO worth is still missing and is believed to have been stolen by the crowd.
