CARR AS A FIGHTER.

(To the Editoi.) Sir,--As Jim Carr is a confidant of mine, he showed me the letter commenting on the caustic remarks made by some critics re his match with Griffiths. A s secretary and president (on several occasions) during the past fourteen years of the M.B.A . I have always been a keen follower of the game. I have, had the opportunity of seeing Carr fight eight times 'in this district, and I think boxers of his calibre are few and far between. His fights have been fights in every sense of the word, from the word “go.” To quote referee Cliff Thomas. Car r has more ringcraft in his finger than the average boxer has in both hands. When Carr appears to be cornered, it’s his opponent’s most dangerous time. Carr has been the mainstay of boxing around the Buller and always draws a good house, lam sure, when you see Carr in action you’ll endorse my remarks. He is a clean-living miner and a respectable citizen and has a large number of well-wishing friends here. He has been spelling because the public wanted to see outside champions like Casey, who proved expensive attractions, and as wo are only a small community it has drained our funds and we had to sit back to accumulate a fund to get Car r going again for a purse worthy of his efforts. He trains harder than any professional I have seen, and that in addition to his day’s work mining. Carr is always readv at the shortest notice to go fifteen rounds with any one near his weight and is not afraid to give half a stone away. Your association has made no mistake in matching Carr. I am sure that he will please you. also the general public of Napier. On behalf of the M.B.A. I wish vou every success. This year we have had five attempts to match Carr and we know we will get a good fight with him and O’Connor. Carr 1 am sure, will give you people a surprise and tlio fight of yonr lives.—l am, etc., HEN JONES. - Secretary Millerton Boxing Assn. Millerton, Sept. 23, 1827.
