STUDENT'S APPLICATION FOR EXEMPTION. AGAIN REFUSED. Auckland, September 28. The application of a Presbyterian student. A. M. Richards, far exemption from military training was again refused in the Magistrate’s Court to day. on the ground that he was not a member of a church which was opposed to military training. A previous application was refused. The Magistrate said anybody might claim exemption on religious grounds, so that it was necessary to follow some principle. The principle adopted was granted only when military training was contrary to the religious belief of the church to which he be longed. Cross-examined, the applicant said he based his objection on the ground that he was a Christian. In refusing the application, the Magistrate (Mr E. C. Cuten) said the Presbyterian Chuiyji wax not opposed to military training. It was the law. and the applicant had to obey.
