WOOL RESEARCH
PROVISION OF WAYS AND MEANS PROPOSED LEVY ON IM|PORTS. GOVERNMENT SUBSIDY MAY CEASE. |By Cable —Press Assn. — Copyright.) (Received 29, 10,30 a,m.) London, Sept. 28. The British Association of the Woollen and Worsted Industries proposes a levy on all raw wool imports to raise funds to carry on scientific research.
The “Yorkshire Observer” understands that West Riding textilists approve of a private authorising bill, which will probably be introduced during the coming session. The Wool Federation subcommittee, after sounding trade organisations on the proposed levy of 6d per bale, finally favbured a small levy on every hundred pounds. The burden of the association’s work has hitherto fallen on the manufacturers. The “Observer” understands that the raw materia] section now favours co-operation, especially in view of the possibility of the cessation of the Government subsidy of £4BOO shortly. —(Sydney “Sun” cable.)
