RE PAINTER’S APPRENTICE.
(To the Editor.) Sir,—l have been expecting to read from an abler pen than mine some comment re painters’ apprentices. When 1 served my apprenticeship I received for my first year 5/- and am told that one has paid a premium to learn the trade. To make an employer pay £1 per week to start a boy and also teach him is ridiculous, and m consequence boys will not be wanted —that is to be taught.—l am, etc., 10/- PER WEEK. Hastings, 28/9/27.
