BREAKING THE LAW
MAGISTRATE’S COURT SITTING IN HASTINGS. The regular sitting of the Magistrate’s Court was held in Hastings this morning, when Mr. A. M. Mowlem, S.M.. presided Maurice Begley was fined £1 and costs £2 1/6 for allowing cattle to wander in Nelson street. Hastings. IDLE AND DISORDERLY. George William Wilkinson was charged with being an idle and disorderly person, A plea of not guilty was entered and Mr Rogers appeared on behalf of the accused. Senior-Sergeant Hogan stated that the accused had heen arrested on September 19 and prior to that had been in Hastings about a week. Ha had taken lodgings at a boardinghouse where he owed 9/- for his board. For the defence Mr. Rogers stated that the accused had been employed on a pop-corn stall in Napier and had been paid off for the week. He had been told that he could start work again prior to the show and thereafter there would be plenty of work. The accused had money when he came to Hastings and he was arrested upon running out of money. The accused in the box admitted that he had previously teen convicted on a similar charge. He could have been at work some days ago but be had been detained by the police. His Worship convicted the accused and ordered him to come up for sentence when called upon within six months. CIVIL CASES. Judgment by default was given in the following caxps: Millar and Giorgi v, J. Kemp £1 2/-, costs £2 12/6; F. Lord v. C, P Marriott £8 I/-, costs £1 10/6; H. A. Mossman v. E. J. Maher and J. Hollis £l2 7/-. costs £2 19/-' Hastings Borough Council v. M. MacAuluy £2] 18/7, costs £lO 8/6; A. J. Vidal and Sons v. Phillips Bros. £l6 10/-. costs £2 18/-; Nat Beamish v R N. Smith £1 1/-, costs 8/-. Judgment Summonses; J. Cooper wa s ordered to pay the H.B Motor Tyre Repair Co. the sum of £7 6/forthwith, in default seven days' imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended provided £1 a month is paid; Huta Rawire was ordered to pay the H.B. Autos Ltd. the sum of £62 16/forthwith, in default two months’ imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended for 28 davß; Tutawaka Ramaka was ordered to pay the N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. £23 10/8 within seven days, in default 28 days’ imprisonment.'
