The funeral of Mr. John Hurst took place yesterday afternoon, when the body was interred in the Hastings cemetery, in the presence of a number of moufners. the Rev. Keith Ewen conducting the service at the graveside.

The funeral of the late Mr s Sadler Smith took place at the Havelock North cemetery yesterday afternoon The first part of the service was held in St. Luke’s Church, when there was a large attendance. The Rev. Canon Maclean officiated and at the graveside.

The Secretary of State for the Dominions (Mr. L. M. Amery), who is engaged on a comprehensive tour of the dominions, left Capetown for Australia on Sunday after a six weeks' tour, in which all the provinces in the Union of South Africa and Rhodesia have been visited. Mr. Amerj was everywhere received with great cordiality.

Last evening the guests of the Ranfurly Hotel. Hastings, assembled to meet Mr. David Beck, tn offer him their congratulations on the eve of his marriage. Mr. A Allen, on behalf of the guests, asked Mr. Beck to accept a beautiful mantle clock as a slight mark of the esteem in which he is held by those associated with him in the hotel, and he wished him and hi§ bride-elect every happiness and good fortune in their wedded life. Miss Fitzmaurice, Messrs IL Burns. Horne. Radford and Joseph Griffiths spoke in a similar strain. Mr. Berk thanked the donors for their kindly wishes and for their useful gift.
