PROTESTS.
CHARGES FOR ELECTRICITY
NO REDUCTION MADE. Further protests in regard to charges for hydro-electricity supply were received by the Hawke’s Bay Electric Power Board yesterday, Air. Allan Anderson, Mangateretere, expressed the opinion that the rate was too stiff altogether and hoped that the board would refund half the amount. He suggested that a charge t)f 2d per unit would be more acceptable than the present charge of 4d. It was decided to inform Mr. Anderson that the charge was the lowest possible at present but it was hoped to review it from time to time. The secretary intimated that it only cost Mr. Anderson 18/- to run his milking plant for four weeks. A second protest was received from Mr. J. H. Milne, of Hastings, who pointed out that all ms current was used off peak hours.
Mr Wylie, secretary, explained that Mr. Milne was a large consumer and paid the board £8 a month. He had a cool store on his property and the cost of electricity worked out at about I/- a case, which was a great saving on the ordinary cool storage rates.
Mr. J. Scott was ot the opinion that the board’s charges should remain unaltered for at least a year until they knew where they stood. He considered that the charges were
very reasonable when ‘jumpared with those of others boards in i\ew Zealand.
The hoard decided to reply to Mr. Milne on similar lines to Mr Anderson.
