RAILWAY ADVERTISING.
COUNCIL’S REQUESTS MET. DEPARTMENT TO BE THANKED. At last night’s meeting ot the Hastings Borough Council, a letter was received from the Railway Advertising Department advising the council that arrangements were being made lor their representative to confer with the Mayor on the question of advertising on Hastings railway buildings. The Mayor said that he had met the representative of the Department (Mr. Powell) that evening and he (the Mayor) was given to understand that no advertisements would be placed on the bus service booking office and Mr. Powell thought the Department would give the council an undertaking to that effect in due course. Regarding the advertisement on the railway tanks the representa tive considered that the tank was a reasonable position to place advertisements. as such positions were allowed to be used if the view of an approaching train was not obstructed, and in this instance such view was not interfered with. In this matter Mr. Powell was insistent, saying that the Department could not forgo the revenue derived from such advertising, so he (His Worship) asked him to see that the advertisements were displayed artistically. He always found the Railway Department reasonable and ready to discuss matters in a »air spirit and he thought the Department should be thanked. It was decided to write the Department thanking them for the manner in which they had met the council’s request.
