ONE IN SIX.

DIVORCES IN THE STATES. LAND OF SEVERED TIES. (Received 14, 9.30 a.m.) Washington, July 13. An analysis of figures from the various States indicates that divorce is increasing in the United States. There is one divorce to every 6.22 marriages in the area surveyed during 1926, compared with one divorce to every 7.25 marriages in the preceding year. Numerous Paris divorces not included in the survey would considerably increase the divorce figures. Michigan's new law requiring five days’ notice before a marriage license is issued is credited with causing a 14 per cent, decrease in marriages, while a new Nebraska law notifying marriage license requirements is credited with a 19 per cent .increase in marriages.—(A. and N.Z.)
