NAPIER BOROUGH

MEETING OF COUNCIL, ROUTINE BUSINESS. The fortnightly meeting of the Napier Borough Council waa held last night. Present: His Worship the Mayor (Mr J. Vigor Brown), and Councillors R. W. Goodger, H- J. Harman, C. H. Wilkie, C. D. Cox, J. St. J. Hindmarsh, A. E. Bedford, P. F. Higgins, W. G. Martin, and J. C. Bryant. Mr John Mason, M-P., wrote enclosing for the council’s information a letter which he had received from the Minister of Internal Affairs with reference to the question of striking names off the district electors’ list. The Minister’s letter stated that he had given instructions that provisions along the lines of the council’s suggestions be made when an amendment to the Municipal Corporations Act was brought down.—lt was decided to express the council’s thanks to Mr Mason. The Hawke’s Bay County Council advised that the estimated cost of removing the old bridge on the borough boundary at the Taradale road, and filling in the waterway underneath, was £464. They asked if the council would agree to contribute towards the cost.—Referred to Finance Committee.

The Napier Thirty Thousand Club submitted for the council’s approval a scheme for the beautification of Kennedy road.—The council approved of the scheme, and decided to extend its congratulations to all concerned with it. TENDERS. Tenders were accepted by the council as follows:— Triple braided cables: The Rudge Electrical Co., Auckland, for cables manufactured by the Enfield Cable W'prks, England, £BB3 12/6. Trolley Wire: Messrs Joseph Nathan and Co., Wellington, tor material manufactured by Messrs. Richard Johnson and Nephew, Ltd., England, £204 4/6. Concrete slabbing of part of the Hastings Street footpath: F. Yates, 6/9 per square yard. 1 GENERAL. The borough engineer was instructed to place additional forms around the Swan Memorial Paddling Pool The Hawke’s Bay County Council granted the council permission to plant trees along the beach domain and the Napier and Awatoto road, provided the work was done under the supervision of the county engineer. On Cr. Martin’s suggestion instructions were given for an inspection to be made to compel owners of property to cut back hedges and overhanging boughs. The borough engineer was instructed to report on the question of bringing the Municipal Baths up to date, including provision for a tepid plunge bath.
