RUGBY FOOTBALL.
CHALLENGE FOR THE SHIELD CANTERBURY WILL HAVE A 1 TRY. Christchurch, July 12. At the meeting of the Canterbury Rugby Union executive to-night, it was decided to challenge for the Ranluly Shield on September 3, provided that Hawke’s Bay still held it on that date. Regarding the question of putting representative teams into camp for training prior to big matches, it was decided that the union should use its own discretion in the matter. NAPIER PRIMARY COMPETITION The Napier primary schools’ competitions were continued on Monday and yesterday with the following results :— A Grade: Marist (8) defeated Nelson Park (nil); Central (5) defeated Clive (nil); Napier South (6) defeated Nelson Park (3).
B Grade: Central (15) defeated Hastings Street (nil); Port Ahuriri (30) defeated Napier South (nil); Meeanee (6) defeated Nelson Park (3). HASTINGS SCHOOL TEAMS. The second round of the School Competition will commence on Saturday, 15th inst. The fixtures are as follows:— July IB—Central v. Mahora; Convent v. West; Parkvale v. Havelock. J uly 23—Central v- Havelock ; West v. Parkvale; Convent v. Mahora. July 30—Central v Convent; Parkvale v. Mahora; West v. Havelock. August 6—Central v. West; Mahora v. Havelock ; Parkvale v. Convent. August 13—Central v. Parkvale ; Mahora v. West; Havelock v. Convent. All matches with "West played on High School Ground; other matches on Nelson Park, commencing at 9.30 and 10.45, in order as above-
