Win for New Zealanders

Match Against East England. □ ACRE’S ATTRACTIVE BATTING McGIRR IN FINE FORM. [By Cable —Press Assn. — Copyright.) (Received 12, 9.15 a.m.) London. July 11. The match against the East of England was resumed in brilliant weather before an attendance of about 1000. The New Zealanders, who had made a bad start, were indebted to Dacre for putting them in a good position. With Page, he put on 101 for the sixth wicket, batting in his most attractive style. He was, however, twice missed before he was caught at long on. The total was then 183, and the Aucklander’s share was 89. in which were included two sixes and twelve fours. a GOOD PARTNERSHIP. After he left, Alcott and James had a good partnership which helped the total along. The latter made some powerful drives, six of his strokes reaching the boundary. The East of England, on going m again, gave a feeble display against McGirr, who rattled down five wickets in eight overs. Half the side were out for 39 and only a stand by GrimsdeH and Burton in the last stages of the innings saved them from complete collapse. These two added 47 for the eighth wicket and averted an innings’ defeat. Lowry changed his bowling continually and, though the innings was so short, called o eight men to take a hand with the ball and five of them were successful. NO DIFFICULTY.

With 73 to get, the visitors found no difficulty and the necessary runs were knocked off in 50 minutes, Dempster and James scoring 31 in a quarter of an hour. New Zealand won by eight wickets.
