TURNER’S “VENICE DOCANA."
REALISES £29,000. London. July S. At Christie’s Saleroom. Turner's 2 by 3 feet “Venice Dogana” and “Salute” realised 29,000 guineas, which is a record price for a small Turner, This picture was sold in 1899 for 8200 guineas. Turner’s “City of Utrecht” realised 8500 guineas, cohipared with 6400 paid for it in 1895, Rembrandt’s “Portrait of a Man” fetched 30.000 guineas, which is a record for a Rembrandt in London. The occasion was the sale of the famous Ross collection, grought from Montreal, comprising 29 pictures which sold in less than an hour for 136,000 guineas.—(A. and N.Z.)
