Wrestling Referee Laid Out

TWO FALLS WHILE HE SLEEPS.

VERDICT CAUSES MELEE. (Received 23, 9.55 a.m.) Melbourne, Aug. 23. Accidentally kicked by one of the wrestlers in the seventh round of the match between Thye and Yokel, the referee was temporarily laid out. During this time Yokel squarely pinned Thye’s shoulders .to the ground with a body press in what should have been the winning fall of the match. After the shoulders had been down four seconds Thye released himself and, in turn, pinned Yokel with a similar hold. The referee, on coming to, saw only Thye on top, and, crawling on his hands and knees, he crowned him the winner. A great demonstration ensued and the police had to escort the referee through the crowd.
