Education Amendment
Bill Before Parliament
THE EXPULSION OF SCHOLARS.
NATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP TERMS (Special to “Tribune.”) Parlt. Buildings, Aug. 21. Several amendments to the Education Amendment Bill have been made by the Education ’Committee of the House of Representatives. The clause which provides that children are not to be expelled from school except by the Education Board has been altered to state that a teacher must report to the school committee as well as to the board the action he has taken in suspending a pupil from attendance. In determining the winners of national scholarships, the committee recommends that the grade of school attended as well as the age of the candidates shall be taken into consideration. A further alteration is that concessions, either by marking or otherwise, shall also be made in the case of candidates who have attended public schools in rural districts. The clause extending medical inspection to secondary schools, etc., has been deleted.
