THE HASTINGS CLUB. The fourth round for the President's Shield is to be played off next Saturday. This will be the final for this event. In the four-ball challenge competition, J. L. Patterson and E. E. Smith defeated A. Murley and E. A; Murley. This is the third match Messrs Patterson and Smith have won in this event. Mr Kirk’s suggestions for improvement of the course aro to ba submitted to the committee at an early date, but it will not be possible to carry out the whole scheme until next sea son. Adoption of these proposals will make the course more attractive for medium and lower grade players, ft is interesting to note that the alterations to distance of several boles as suggested will not shorten th e total length of th* course.
