Hillation. Both are trained by Miss; G. Maher, of Hastings. In the Mangatarata Hurdles Lark Hall lost his rider, C. Holmes, who sustained a badly bruised leg. Grand Knight and Rapine paraded! after the Nursery Handicap and came. in for a lot oi admiration by tho spectators. The Stakes was robbed of a good deal of interest on account of Reremoana's detection. With other scratchings there remained only three horses to go to the post. Glentruiu registered her second win, having previously been successful in 1924. She cut out the distance to-day in 1.20 2-5, one-fifth of a second less than when she won before. Gloaming uook 1.19 3-5 when he won last year. Jn returning to scale Glentruin was decorated with the blue ribband by Miss Russell. MANGATARATA HANDICAP HURDLE RACE. The favourite went to the front along the back with Wilmoreana.* with Toa Taua following. At the hurdle at the far befnd Lark Hall lost his rider. Little River had a commanding lead at the turn for home from Toa Taua, and Suspicion, the latter having moved up rounding the bend. Little River had no difficulty in winning by eight lengths, Landbird, who came up fast in the straight being six lengths back# Crown Coin was fourth. My Hobby was a very warm favourite, there being good support for Othon and Secpnaue, the remainder paying good prices. rolyastra took up the running from My Hobby, Martona and Hillation. Along the back Polyastra was still in the lead from My Hobby and Othon, there being & bunch of five jn behind, with Hillation on the outside. Stronghold pulled away coming to the far bend and was first into the straight from Othon and My Hobby, with Hillation coming fast on the outside. Hillation collared My Hobby and Strongholt at the distance and won by half a length, a length between second and thirdOthon was fourth. Time, I.sjg 2-5. This was the second win for .the Vallance stable. Mr. G. Green, the rider of Po[yasfra, fell off after passing the post, Tut sustained no injury, INNER HARBOUR WINS. PAYS FINE DIVIDEND. Rascal was second choice., vv nen they were let go Magna Charta was tlie nrst to show out irom Inner narbour and Rascal.* These three raced Hi line to the home turn, Hymgreat oeing at the head of the others. Magna Charta on the rails, Rascal in the centre, and Inner Harbour on the outside, made a great race of the finish, and it looked at the distance as if these three were going to have the ftnish to themselves, but Hymgreat came like lightning over the last fcit and pipped ail but Inner Harbour, heads separating the placed horses. Silver Tray also finished well into shird place. Time, 1.2 l-5< Rascal was fourth. HAWKE’S BAY STAKES. Of 400 sovs. Six and a half furlongs. 1 Messrs. Chisholm and Macdonald's ch m Glentruin, Sunflower 11.—Castelline (M. McCarten), aged, 9.13 1 2 Mr. C. F. Vallance’s Peneus (B. Morris), 9.1 2 3 Mr. .4. B. William’s’ Decoy Bird (M. Gilmore), 7.8 3 With only three horses starting the public did not have far to look for the winner and installed Glentruin a hot favourite. Peneus was the next best backed. Peneus acted as from Glentruin and Decoy Bird to the far bend, when Glentruin moved up alongside of Peneus and was slighlty ahead of Mr. Vallance’s gelding when they straightened up. Glentruin whs always going nicely and had no difficulty in winning by half h length,, Decoy Bird being five lengths backj lime. 1.20 3-5. (Continued on J’tge 6).
