DAYLIGHT SAVING.

Wellington, March 28. Replies have now been received from •52 local bodies and 23 other organisations throughout the Dominion favouring the passing of legislation to bring summer time into force in this country . There appears to he some misconception, it is asserted, as to the effect which the legislation will have on primary producers. There is nothing in the bill to compel those engaged in fanning from doing anything different from what they, are doing at the present time. Fann workers, whether engaged in dairy work, agriculture or orchards, are not bound to any hours of labour. There is no award which binds them to a time of starting or finishing, and the legislation will not force them to take their milk or cream to a faetpry at any hour that is not convenient to themselves. The onlj' producers who will be affected are those working in conjunc tion with an early morning railway time-table, and mi examination will show, it is urged ,that there are very few country’ stations where there is an early departure of trains. Most of the early trains leave from the centres of population . With regard to industrial awards, it is mentioned that the passing of the proposed legislation is the simplest way of effecting the change without disturbing the awards. The bill provides for this.
