MANSLAUGHTER CHARGE.
AGAINST COUNTY ENGINEER. Invercargill, March 29. At the conclusion of the inquest into the death of Frederick Witty, who was killed on North road on March 8. the coroner returned a verdict that deceased met his death through being run over by a car driven by John Guy Dennison. Dennison is the engineer engaged bv the Southland County Council to supervise the work of bituminising the North road. The evidence showed that deceased, who was riding a bicycle, had been struck from behind and thrown against the wind screen. Dennison was arrested on a charge of manslaughter. Bail was allowed in one surety of £2OO. Accused was remanded to appear on April 7.
