The “Daily Mail” understands that Mr Churchill is satified that he can frame the 1926 Budget at a substantially lower figure than that of 1925, excluding the coal subsidy, which will probably total thirty millions. It is expected tiiat me balance sheet on March 31 next will show a deficit, but there is a possibility of a reduction in direct taxation provided Mr Churchill succeeds in obtaining Cabinet’s ap- j pi oval of new taxes, such as a tax on betting, a whisky export tax, and an extension of the luxury tax. —(Sydney “Sun” cable).
