Peace in Morocco

KRIM'S CONDITIONS. AUTONOMY AND AN OPEN DOOR. Paris, Dec. 22. Captain Gordon Canning, special correspondent of the “Daily Express’ ■ with Abd-el-Krim, arrived in Pans in tho hope of discussing Moroccan peace with M. Briand, who refuses to meet Captain Canning, pointing out that peace must be jointly discussed with France and Spain. Captain Canning states that Abd-el-Krim is readv to acknowledge the Sultan’s spiritual authority if France and Spain grant autonomy analogous to that of the British dominions. He is readv to recognise the principles of the open door in Morocco, but demands the evacuation of Adiir. In return he will abandon his claim to Tetuan. .The Spaniards thus would have . Melilla. Ceuta and Larache and the hinterland for 25 kilometers. .

Abd-el-Krim’s letter does not give Captain Canning authority to enter negotiations.—(A. and N.Z.)
