REVENUE FROM BETTING.

BRITISH TAXATION PROPOSALS. London. Dec. 22. The proposal to tax betting has been submitted to the Treasury. Mr. Churchill received an influenial deputation headed bv Lord Newton. Mr. Churchill explained that his reception of the deputation did not moan that he or the Government had reached any decision favourable to a tax on betting. Certainly no Government could contemplate anv step which might lead to the increase of a wasteful form of expenditure, which was an evil in social life. He promised to examine all aspects of the question impartially.(Reuter.)
