Dug by “The Delver.” This evening, up to 8 o’clock, the Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club takes acceptances for the first-day events of its New Year meeting. At the same time acceptances close fo r first-day events at the Marton and Stratford summer fixtures. Auckland exchanges now to hand show that, as surmised yesterday, King Smock’s name was wrongly included in the locally published list of acceptances for the Auckland Cup. T. Quinlivan. says the Auckland “Star,” had Black Cat, Royal Divorce and Fool’s Paradise engaged in events on the opening day at Ellerslie, but missed the acceptances by a minute. It is not often that Mr. E. Riddiford’s trainer is caught napping, but, then, eyen Jove is said to nod sometimes. There are, however, three further days’ racing at which to seek compensation tor the apparent oversight. Mr. 11. R. Sellers, secretary of the New Zealand Racing Conference, who has been laid up with an attack of pleurisy, is now reported by Christchurch exchanges to be making a good recovery.

After the Foal Stakes. Commendation’s next outing will probably be the Royal Stakes, a six furlongs event with special weights, to be run on the 4th day of the A.R.C. meeting.

The one-time Hastings trainer W. Stone, who a while ago shifted ciuarlers from Te Awamutu to Avondale, will shortly move his team back to the latter place, as the Avondale club has big improvement work in contemplation for its racing and training tracks. Its next two meeting are to be held at Ellerslie.

Although the Thames Jockey Club’s summer meeting, at which good stakes were offered, follows closely on that of the Auckland Racing Club and is to be held on the Takapuna 'racecourse.

there do not seem to be any but Auck’and district horses included in the big nomination lists published in northern exchanges. That good horse Roseday is booked to compete in the Federal Handicap on the first dav of the Dunedin Jock-

ey Club’s meeting. This will be hi' first appearance since his disqualifica-

tion for a year at Gore in October last year. The Avondale Stakes winner Phaqla is a notable absentee from the juvenile races at Ellerslie. Phaola recently had been suffering from a bad cold, which no doubt is the cause of the absence of her name from the lists. The stable will still have Value to rely on in the juvenile handicaps. The AVaikato folk are looking to White Comet to take a leading part in some of his engagements near at hand. The Day Comet—Lady Frisco gelding is said to be in exceptionally good shape at present. Tn the same quarter King Merv is expected to run prominently in his Ellerslie undertakings. The Quin Abbey sprinter won on the course over six furlongs on the first day of the Auckland Spring meeting. While racing on the first day of the Takapuna meeting, Finelli sustained a fall, as the result of which the Fin-land—Ti-ebelli mare had to bo eased in her work. She was looking a bit above herself when she raced at 'Je Rapa, but carried her big weight of 9.0 with distinction, till well into the straight. Finelli will be all the better for that race, and she is sure to be one of the well supported horses in the Railway Handicap. Such a. goou beginner must certainly he given a chance, in the big field likely to be started.

It was said yesterday that no evil consequences followed on Herculean’s fall at the Waipa meeting. Howevci, an Auckland exchange received last night states that though the Lucullus —lmmensity gelding appeared to escape with a slight injury to one of his legs, during the week he was in such a bad way that he had to be destroyed. This is had luck for his owner-trainer, H. A. Russell, best known in connection with those good performers Civility and Siaosi. “York Abbey,” says the “Waikato Times,” has been ranking as one of the shortest priced horses up Hamilton way for the Railway Handicap at Ellerslie. York Abbey has not raced since the spring meeting at Avondale, at which he won very decisively over six furlongs in heavy going with 8.5 in the saddle. He was first and second in his engagements at the winter meeting at Ellerslie. While there is a suspicion that the representative of the Hannon stable runs his best races when the sting is out of the ground he should be treated with the greatest respect on Boxing Day. even admitting that it will be the best class field the Quin Abbey gelding has yet tackled and, further, that he has a fair weight to carry.”

According to a Wellington report the best gallop of tne morning at Trentham on Saturday went to the credit of Orchid, who covered half a mile in 48|sec. He went well all the way and finished full of dash. Tanadees and Waetea were sent a mile. Waetea got a break on her companion at the start, but at the finish there was little between them. The time was Imin 44sec. It was a good gallop. Tresham went very pleasingly over seven furlongs. Sasham accompanied him over the last half-mile, but Tresham finished in front. Actual arrivals at Ellerslie at the week-end include Centrepiece (H. Oiitts), Sun Up (D. King). Haze and Nincompoop (Mason) Diogenes (G. New), Penman (P. Neagle), Beacon Light (S. Waddell). Lysander, Mask and The Thorn (W. Rayner). Reremoana. The Banker, Lady Cavendish and Helen (O. Cox). Rapine, Star Stranger. Mimetic, My Hobby. Decoy Bird ami Joy’ King (J. H. Jefferdj, Royal Divorce, Fool’s Paracnse and Black Cat (T. Quinlivan). Mandane. Shining Armour. Tukia. Limited and Glenross (F. Tilley), Merry Singer (Miss Maher).
