Mr. W. D. Hunt has been appointed to represent commercial interests on the Dairy Control Board, in place of Mr. J. B. Mac Ewan, resigned. The Canterbury Education Board yesterday decided to award a special prize to Margaret Evans, Christchurch East School, who had not missed a single attendance for eight years. The Rev. Father P. McCarthy, S.M., who has been appointed to the professorial staff of the newly-established Marist College ir. the north of England, sailed by the Ic*»ki xesterday. Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Fitzpatrick and Mr. and Mrs. J. Wise, oi Hastings, are leaving in two cars o. r a motor tour durin gthc Christmas holidays, camping out and visiting Taupo, Rotorua and Taumarunui on their way. The cUkr, Emmet Fitzgibbon, son of Mr. and Mrs. T. Fitzgibbon, of Hastings, who suffered severe injuries a few days ago, as the result of burns, was rej)orted to be a little better today ,although still in a serious condition. Lieut.-Colonel and Mrs. James Brav. two well-known figures in the Salvation Army in New Zealand for many years, are about to retire from active service, and will leave at the end of tlie month for Melbourne, where they will make their home. During an interval at the annuabgj Christmas tree festival of Karamu f Lodge No. 47 1.0.0. F., held last evening in the Oddfellows’ Hall, Bro. A. Raeside, who has rendered good service to the Lodge, and is about to leave the district, was the recipient of a case of pipes as a small token of esteem in which he is held by the members.
