MAN AND BOY IN BOAT. THREE DAYS AND TWO NIGHTS ADRIFT. Waihi, Dec. 10. David Leach, aged 84 years, a resident of Waihi, and a lad named Charles Lawson, aged 14, were reported missing on Monday from Horaunga Bay, a lew miles down tho coast. They left on Monday in tho forenoon for the fishing ground, a quarter of a mile out. A strong wind suddenly sprang up, and in an attempt to row back an oar was lost overboard, and the frail craft was practically at the mercy of the wind and waves. It was blown out to sea. and the wind increased to a gale during the night. On the morning of the second day tho boat was miles from the land, and al nightfall, the heroic efforts of tho lad, with a single paddle, prevented the craft from being dashed on the rocks at Mayor Island.

The following afternoon (Wednesday) they were picked up bv G. Tonga’s launch. Leach’s two sons accompanying the rescue party, between Mayor Island and the Aidermen. The boy Lawson was feebly paddling and the old man was huddled up in the bow in a semi-conscious condition. They had been adrift for three days and'two nights without fec-tl or water.
