MARRIAGE AND DIVORCE.

AMERICAN STATISTICS. (Received 9, 9.30 a.m.)' Washington, Dec. 8. The- Census Bureau’s survey of marriage and divorce in the United States for 1921 shows a continuance of the declining number of marriages and an increase in the number of divorces noted previously. Marriages during 1924 totalled 1,178,206, compared with G 223,921 in 1923. a decrease of 45.718, or 3.7 per cent. Only 10 States reported an increased number of marriages.

Divorce decreased in IS States, but th© increase in other States more than offset these decreases. A surprise was caused by figures showing that New York, which is reputed to be the centre of wickedness, had but ono divorce out of 23 marriages, leading all other sections of the country. Oregon and Nebraska show one divorce for every two or three marriages.—(A. and N.Z.)
