RESIGNATION OF POWER BOARD CHAIRMAN. Ashburton, Nov. 6. Mr F. W. Watt, chairman of tho Ashburton Electric Power Board, has resigned membership of the board. Mr Watt stated that the immediate cause of his resignation related to the decision of the board to supply him with a free power service for his house during the period of his chairmanship. He pointed, out that though the decision was rescinded on tho matter being ■brought under the notice of the board and that tho resolution only actually applied to one month’s current, which ! was paid by him 24 days late, the j Audit Department held that the dis- i qualification under sub-sections 14 FI and 15 G of the Electric Power Boards I Act, 1918, had taken effect. Conso-1 quently it was impossible for him to | officiate further in his capacity as ft ' member until such time as he T&n bo ( and is re-elected. Sub-section 7 of section 14, to which i the" Audit Office refers, provides that a person is incapable of being elected or appointed a member of a power board if he holds any office or place or profit under or in gift of a board and sub-section G, section 15 provides that tho office of a member of a board shall become vacant if he holds any office or place under or in the gift of a board.
