It wa 8 claimed that three rnvfr viere absent, and the vessel was undermanned. Th© captain anchored in the stream and two of the missing men were found. Another account savs that only on* in all wa 8 absent. It is also stated that the chief engineer who remonstrated with thb men, was badly knocked about. In th© end the police were sent for and the tug Terawhiti was sent out early this morning to stand b v the steamer.
