WAIPUKURAU COUNTY COUNCIL.
MONTHLY" MEETING. The monthly of the Waipukurau County Council was held on Saturday. Present: Mr A. C. Russell (chairman). Crs J. H. Russell ctaoin shrdlu cmfwy Crs J. H. Kibblewhitc, B. McCormick, Fleming, M. Tanscy and A. W. Elliott. i CORRESPONDENCE. The Public Works Departmentwrote drawing attention to Hie encroachment of the Puketuki river on Lower Gorge road, and asking for a grant towards cost of repairs.—The Council granted £lO. A letter from the Waipawa County Council regarding the construction of a bridge over the Marakeke stream to servo the Hatuina and Marakeke Settlements. was held over until next meeting Messrs Lloyd and Lloyd, socicitors. Dannovirke. wrote in reference to the request from Messrs Castles for road access to their property in Waikopiro asking that the Council acquire the necessary land under the Public Works Act.—The Council decided to reply that the correspondence would be handed over to its solicitors for investigation re legalisation of right of way. Mr A. Olsen (roadman) wrote applying for a tank, and that the wharo be lined.—The requests were granted. The Council decided that Overseer Price be appointed inspector under the heavy traffic by-laws. GENERAL The pay-sheet, totalling £6lO 14s 3d, was passed for paymeiit. The Overseer reported.—The Albion truck had delivered 135 yards of shingle to various parts of the Hatuina riding during the month. The groyne at the pumping station has been erected, but the stock at largo on the river bed is a nuisance where the willows are concerned, and before long only the trunks will be left. On lower George road the river has encroached about ten feet on to the reading and although there is no immediate danger as far as the actual roadway is concerned I think something should be done before next winter as a safeguard against further erosion. A small pipe culvert near Marakeke School has been placed and patching and general maintenance has been carried out throughout. In the Mount Herbert riding, Nicholls road reformation has been completed at a cost of £46 18s 6d. In the Purimu riding, Hamilton’s road contract is completed with the exception of a few days kiiiapi>ing stones. A washout occurred at Guthrie’s dam as a result of a heavy thunderstorm, before the concrete had set, but it has been repaired at an additional cost of £1 18s. Lorries have delivered 26 yards of shingle on Tourere road at a cost of 10s 4d per yards.
