Slip Near Ormondville

RAILWAY LINE BLOCKED. MAIL TRAIN’S DELAYED. On Saturday night or early yesterday morning a large landslip blocked the Napier-Palmerston North line between Ormondville and Kopua. Gangs of men were sent out yesterday ' from Waipukurau and Dannevirke, and tackled the task of clearing the line at both ends of the slip. A relief gang was despatched from Napier by special train at 1 o’clock this morning, and the work of clearing away the aebris is being prosecuted with all upeed. The line had not been sufficiently cleared to allow the south-bound express to get through this morning, and the passengers had to transfer to another train at the southern end of the blockage. TRAINS MUCH DELAYED. Arrangements have been made to transfer passengers and luggage at the slip to waiting trains on the other end, but the delay was considerable and the train due in Hastings at 1.10 was not expected until about 4 o’clock. The Hastings-Aapier traffic, however, did not suiier, as a local engine and carriages took the place of the train ffue to leave for Napier at 1.30, and the 2.30 train ran as usual. INTERRUPTION OF TRAFFIC. NORTH AND SOUTH PASSENGERS TRANSHIPPTED. (Per Press Association.) Dannevirke, Noy. 3. A heavy slip on the railway line between Kopua and Ormondville disorganised railway traffic in southern Hawke’s Bay tins morning. The first train from Waipukurau for Palmerston North did not get through. The delay at the slip, has proved greater than was anticipated. The passengers from Napier are reported to be transhipping at the slip. It is expected the express will arrive here two hours behind time. There is no information as to when the line is likely to be cleared. The passengers by the express io. Napier will probably have to tranship.
