WAIPAWA.

THE RAINFALL. (Own Correspondent.) The gale that was experienced throughout the province on Friday night was apparently more severe in this district than in other parts. The rainfall registered during the night amounted to 5 inches. The water channels were unable to cope with the test imposed on them and the road from the gasworks to the railway station was two feet under water, with the result that motor traffic was held up for two hours. The damage done in tbe district was of a minor nature.
